Summoners Please Note: High-level stryfe may be summoned by advanced summoners, but not controlled. The wise summoner will stick to animals, monsters and lower level, less sentient stryfe.

Level One

Summoners have long been considered 'battle sorcerers' as they have no real defensive magic. While having no fighting capability of their own, the summoner has no defense magic, so to speak, and summons various creatures to fight and defend on their behalf. As a result, these sorcerers have a long tradition of being used in battle. The first level summoner may only summon animals weighing up to approximately half of their own body weight. No monsters or stryfe may be summoned at this level.

Pre-Requisites for Lv.1 Summoner: None
Skills: 3

Level Two

Summoning magic requires a good deal of spell components and arcane writing, so the basic study of the arcane that all sorcerers endure in the early levels is far more detailed for this breed. In addition to a study of the basic workings of arcane magic, the second level summoner often also studies arcane writing and herbology, as herbs and the preparation of them often plays a big part in a ritual summoning. While it may be fine to summon small animals and let them run rampant, in preparation for larger tasks in the future the level two summoner usually begins serious study into binding spells so their summoned creatures don't run away on them. Another popular spell at this level is 'hypnotic trance' to force summoned creatures into obedience.

Pre-requisites for Lv.2 Summoner: 100 posts and 3 months at game
Skills: 3

Level Three

At the early levels a summoner often has quite a bit of trouble controlling their summoned creatures. So after a bit of chaos in the first two levels, the third level finds some measure of control through binding and hypnosis and it becomes easier to write basic summoning circles. Even so the summoner still cannot summon a creature weighing more than his/herself. (i.e.: A two hundred pound third level summoner summons a great bear from the nearby forest. Oops! Great bear weighs more than the summoner, but Great Bear's baby doesn't, so now the summoner has a confused bear cub to deal with. And Oh?! Is that the sound of an angry mamma bear swiftly approaching? Uh oh third level summoner, I suggest running.) Sufficed to say, the third level summoner is still prone to a few such bouts of misjudgement, but the increased amount of control makes them considerably less frequent.

Pre-requisites for Lv.3 Summoner: 300 posts and 6 months at game
Skills: 3

Level Four

A fourth level summoner typically has a strong understanding of the basic workings of arcane magic and is stronger in reading arcane writing than other summoners of the same level due to a higher frequency of use. At the fourth level a summoner may begin summoning creatures weighing more then themselves, but the first few attempts at this are often problematic. Monster summoning, while it may have been dabbled in with small monsters at the early levels, will begin in earnest here. With better control of binding and hypnotic magic, monsters-normally of a rather violent nature-will not be as much of a hazard to attempt at this level.

Pre-requisites for Lv.4 Summoner: 500 posts and 9 months at game
Skills: 3

Level Five

The fifth level summoner typically begins summoning some stryfe. Highly sentient for the most part and much more difficult to control, summoning stryfe is considered an endeavor for the talented summoner only. Low-level stryfe are little more difficult to control than monsters are and can be summoned without much difficulty. Having more experience many fifth level summoners take to joining bands of adventurers rather than traveling and working alone, as they come to realize that the main weakness in their art is the duration of time it takes to summon a creature. During that time the summoner is vulnerable. Understanding this, summoners typically find safety in numbers now if they have endured the hardship of working alone previously.

Pre-requisites for Lv.5 Summoner: 800 posts and 1 year at game
Skills: 2

Level Six

A sixth level summoner is adept at summoning animals, most monsters (so long as they aren't too large-i.e.: you can't summon a dragon yet. It's just too big for you to handle), and some stryfe. Many summoners at this level become involved with the military if they haven't up to this point. This gives the summoner a steady source of income and the knowledge they will always be well-fed. A benefit to any military, the sixth level summoner who chooses this path is often well taken care of. On the down side, being part of the military increases the probability that you might die.

Pre-requisites for Lv.6 Summoner: 1200 posts and 1.5 years at game
Skills: 2

Level Seven

The seventh level summoner is often a terrifying thing to behold. Able to summon even rather large creatures (though not necessarily always control them depending on their level of sentience), this summoner can breed quite a bit of fear in their enemies. However, the larger the creature, the more components required, the more complex arcane writing…and while the summoner is fully capable of all of these things, there's also the matter that it simply takes more time. Without a traveling companion or group of such to guard them during spell-casting, a summoner even at this level can be terribly vulnerable as some spells may take upwards of fifteen minutes just to cast.

Pre-requisites for Lv.7 Summoner: 1600 posts and 2 years at game
Skills: 2

Level Eight

The eighth level summoner is often called a 'dragon master' because it takes a good deal of power and control to summon and gain the obedience of a dragon-and the eighth level summoner has both. While summoning dragons is a very time-consuming and exhausting process, the value of having a large winged lizard who breathes fire on your side cannot be overlooked. These summoners are looked upon with equal amounts of fear and reverence.

Pre-requisites for Lv.8 Summoner: 2100 posts and 3 years at game
Skills: 1

Level Nine

A ninth level summoner often holds some political influence due to the fact that, well, everyone's afraid of them. Capable of summoning creatures grand enough to decimate a small village in the time it takes to say "by the gods, run!", the ninth level summoner has often been at some point involved in the military and has enough connections that if they wanted to call in a few favors they could probably have half the city by the throat. Of course, not all summoners are evil, power-hungry bastards, right? Well, let's hope not, because if they are Edarin as a whole may be in some serious trouble.

Pre-requisites for Lv.9 Summoner: 3000 posts and 4 years at game
