Please Note: A soldier gains a steady income of 50 ka per month. This is a month in game time, but as there is no real way to measure this other than the good old honor code, you, the player, choose this class on the understanding that your soldier character will receive 50 ka for every 30 posts. OOC posts are not counted in your post count. It is your responsibility to keep track of your own funds.
Do NOT abuse this privilege by posting frequent nonsensical or otherwise lame posts. This class is not yours by right. Your character can and WILL be stripped of rank and it's associated privileges for such abuse.
Also note: Some countries in Edarin do NOT have a structured military. View [GOVERNMENT] for overviews.
Level One
When a person enters the military they do so at the rank 'Soldier, 3rd Class'. A third class soldier is a novice in all ways. He or she is just beginning sword or dagger training and spends much of their time running errands for their superiors-and getting pushed around. Training is exhaustive-building up strength to keep up with the other soldiers often feels like an uphill battle.
Pre-Requisites for Lv.1 Soldier: None
Skills:Endurance Plus + 2 other
Level Two
A soldier of the second level is no longer a total peon. The rank associated here is 'Soldier, 2nd Class'. A rank above the total novice, a second class soldier usually can manage an officer's sword with passable grace and moderate efficiency. While still vastly inexperienced in warfare it is a trial by fire-soldiers take the front lines of battle-those who by luck and/or skill manage to survive number at only approximately 30% of men and women entering this field.
Pre-requisites for Lv.2 Soldicer: 100 posts and 3 months at game
Skills: 3
Level Three
With a bit of battle experience under their belts, the First Class Soldier begins to look the part. Often at the intermediate level of at least one weapon (sword, dagger, or bow only) this soldier, at least, is not terribly likely to run screaming from the battlefield. Still a front line soldier, Soldiers of the First Class are sometimes entrusted to oversee a small unit of two or three lower ranking soldiers. Such a unit usually includes the first class soldier plus one second class soldier and two soldiers of the third class. It is considered an exercise of practice-those who do well commanding such small units may advance while others may remain a mere soldier for life.
Pre-requisites for Lv.3 Soldier: 300 posts and 6 months at game
Skills: 3
Level Four
If one survives the three ranks of soldier well and impresses their commanding officers, they may be suggested at this level for the rank of Unit Commander. This is a huge leap for a military man or woman. A Unit, depending on the military can be anywhere from ten to thirty five men and women-all of whom are the Unit Commander's responsibility. Slightly behind the front lines now, a Unit Commander stands a better chance of surviving-but it's a double edged sword: he or she survives by sending others into battle-a heavy emotional burden that many do not take well. Nearly half of all Unit Commanders resign from the military within six months of accepting the post. There is a bonus though-a unit commander's pay is raised from 50 to 65 ka per month.
Pre-requisites for Lv.4 Soldier: 500 posts and 9 months at game
Skills: 3
Level 5
Those Unit Commanders who do well often progress to the rank of Squadron Commander at this level. A squadron is often comprised of approximately 3-5 units, totaling at 100-300 soldiers. A squadron commander must have a head for battle tactics-they communicate their orders to the units under their command through their relative Unit Commanders. This job is high in stress-but those who attain it are military men who often remain so for life. A Squadron Commander doesn't get a pay raise, but they DO get their own quarters-a luxury that is much appreciated after being crammed in the close quarters of military barracks for so much of their young life.
Pre-requisites for a Lv.5 Soldier: 800 posts and 1 year at game
Skills: 2
Level Six
Many soldiers of the sixth level have achieved the rank of Captain and with it grace, a sense of battle tactics, skill in at least one military weapon (most commonly sword or bow), and most importantly the respect of those around them. The Captain commands respect and many by this point have earned a moderate reputation for themselves. Most captains have at least two squadrons under their command, some as many as six. He or she may be in command of over a thousand men-though this only in the largest of armies. Pay for a military captain is 90 ka per month and only in extraneous circumstances does a Captain have to share his living quarters.
Pre-requisites for Lv.6 Soldier: 1200 posts and 1.5 years at game
Skills: 2
Level Seven
A distinguished Captain with years of experience is usually what one finds of the seventh level soldier. Though some seventh level soldiers may achieve the rank of Captain 1st rank this is the exception, not the rule. Regardless, this battle hardened warrior is a formidable opponent and skilled leader.
Pre-requisites for Lv.7 Soldier: 1600 posts + 2 years at game
Skills: 2
Level Eight
Most eighth level soldiers are Captains of the 1st rank. A 1st Rank Captain normally has about four lower ranking Captains reporting directly to him. He/she rarely engages in the actual battle, but is a skilled tactician with decades of battle experience behind them. They direct the soldiers beneath them through their relative Captains. A 1st Rank Captain comes into only very limited contact with the front line soldiers. There's little reason to. They are only obligated to their General and their King or Queen. Monthly salary is 100 ka.
Pre-requisites for Lv.8 Soldier: 2100 posts and 3 years at game
Skills: 1
Level Nine
The height of any soldier's career is the rank of General. Obligated to King and Country alone, the General is a brilliant military mind. He/she almost never is obligated to enter the actual fray of battle and many are in the advanced stages of middle age. Battle-hardened and skilled at military weaponry and hand to hand combat, the General often has his/her own apartments and never need share accommodations. Monthly salary jumps to 150 ka-with free housing and equipment this sum makes the General often one of the wealthiest individuals in the country.
