The Lands of Edarin have been in existence for many millennia, and so it would obviously be a little overdone to cover everything here. However, the following Historical Guide has been taken as a series of excerpts from the reknowned Messir Etam Vita's Book of Days. Circal 1135, Age of Fenris. The below pages will cover Edarin's recent history and the two Great Wars which shaped the face of the world in which we now live, in this, the year 3017 of the same Age.

History of Edarin: An Overview

The Year 512 in the Age of Fenris
The Great Central War begins between Ardenbau over rights to a small spit of land centuries later to become known as Delain. The war wages for approximately 500 years.

The Year 790 in the Age of Fenris
Sick of being constantly juggled between one king and the next, the land now known as Delain declared independence from both Tirane and Ardenbau, forming a small, independent nation. By this point, Tirane and Ardenbau had grown to loathe one another so much that they continued to war over who was to blame for such. The war would continue for approximately 300 more years.

The Year 847 in the Age of Fenris
King Adaen of Moonhaven dies. In the following months a dispute over who has rights to ascend the throne ensues causing a civil war in Moonhaven that would last almost 200 years.

The Year 1014 in the Age of Fenris
Moonhaven's Lady Olivia is wounded in battle. She is rescued from the verge of death by King Kiergan of Ardenbau, where she remains for the next six years. The elves of Moonhaven assume her missing.

The Year 1020 in the Age of Fenris
Lady Olivia is sighted in Ardenbau in the presence of the King. The Zhoan elves of Moonhaven assume she has been kidnapped and is being held against her will and suddenly attack the kingdom.

Ardenbau is forced to fight on both it's Eastern and Western fronts. During the ensuing battle, Olivia entered the field to try to clarify the misunderstanding. A stray arrow killed her. Both countries mourned the loss.

The Year 1021 in the age of Fenris
After the appropriate period of mourning the death of Lady Olivia, King Aldarion of Moonhaven names her son, Lysander Half-Elven his heir to the throne. This edict, he claims, supercedes any and all birth rights of any children he may have over the span of his life. Lacking a reason to continue fighting, Moonhaven's Civil War ends.

In the spring of the same year, Ardenbau and Tirane sign a 'Closed Borders' Treatise to end the fighting. No trade or communication is established between the two nations but they grudgingly agree that so long as the citizens of each country stay on their side of the border line there will be no further bloodshed.

The Year 1036 in the Age of Fenris
After fifteen years of peace Edarin finds itself thrust into another war later to become known as the Iodaran Siege. In less than a month, Darendale is taken, and hardly a month after that Garumeth also falls. Southern Ardenbau and Southern Tirane are simultaneously attacked. For reasons unknown, Delain is left untouched.

King Arun of Tirane calls a known negotiator, Lysander Half-Elven of Moonhaven to forge a more suitable treatise between Tirane and Ardenbau so they might stand together more firmly against the threat than apart.

Within the next three months, Moonhaven is sieged and King Aldarion killed. Lysander hands the throne over to a man of no royal lineage whatsoever-Serenzar, son of Beldaer.

The royal house Mavar of Darendale is decimated shortly before the winter solstice and the capitol city, Varin, falls.

The Year 1037 in the Age of Fenris
The High Prince of Ardenbau, Donovan, is killed in battle. The Zhoan elves rush to the aid of Ardenbau upon Serenzar's decision, but do not arrive until after his death. However, this is the turning point of the war for Ardenbau, and Iodar's army is driven back.

Nearly 1,000 children are sent from Tirane to Delain as refugees on orders from King Arun as the war takes a turn for the worse.

The Year 1038 in the Age of Fenris
Aid arrives in Tirane from Windwarren, turning the tide of the war. Garumeth and Darendale are freed from Iodaran enchantments and control, and King Dsenan of Iodar is restored to his rightful throne.

The Year 1039 in the Age of Fenris
The New Year is greeted with peace and restoration. Much of the land is in ruin, but already reconstruction has begun.

As per the treatise between Ardenbau and Tirane, Prince Arrien and Princess Ayan are wed, binding the two countries together with blood ties.

The Year 1062 in the Age of Fenris
King Dsenan, growing quite old now, passes his crown to a newly named royal house and his chief advisor, Edal Dagus. This marks the first time in history the homeland of the Nymandine elves has been ruled over by a Nymandine elf. House Dagus remains in control of Iodar to this day.

The Year 2011, Age of Fenris
Prince Giliadh of Windwarren, having spent the better part of his life traveling, mysteriously disappears. No one has ever discovered what happened to him.

Turbulent times are often followed by times of peace and the time after the Great Wars passed uneventfully and with no particularly notable happenings. Kings and Queens rose and fell with time, names and faces have changed, but little of particular interest has occurred since the Iodaran Siege to date. While writings on the rise and fall of monarchs can be found throughout the lands of Edarin. These are not of particular import on the grander scale and shall not be covered here.
