Level One
The first level diviner is often about as accurate in their divining as those who use fortune telling as a simple money-grabbing gimmick, that is to say, not very. Divining is an art that requires intense focus and concentration, which an apprentice at the beginning level simply doesn't have. Apprentice diviners are often mistaken for petty crooks, but hey, at least they're a source of entertainment at parties, right? At the first level a diviner often works with divining cards and their primary focus is on meditation to improve their concentration. They aren't always accurate, but do have rare moments of intuition that are spot on.
Pre-Requisites for Lv.1 Diviner: None
Skills: 3
Level Two
Still focusing heavily on meditation to improve their concentration, the level two diviner starts to become somewhat more accurate in their predictions. While still vastly apprentices at the trade, their divining begins to take the shape of a skill instead of simple pot luck at this stage. The level two diviner still depends heavily on divining cards as a trick of the trade as their focus is not yet adept enough to work without such detail-oriented tools, but they may begin a basic study of anatomical fortune telling techniques, such as palmistry or phrenology.
Pre-requisites for Lv.2 Diviner: 100 posts and 3 months at game
Skills: 3
Level Three
With focus increasing through the study of meditation and extensive practice a third level diviner is often able to work with a good deal of accuracy in divining cards and will begin the study of more advanced methods of fortune telling, such as pendulums, tea leaves, or reading jewelry and other crystals. While 'pendulum and ash' is the most common method of fortune telling for diviners (*see below), there are many areas of specialization, and a third level diviner will be tempted to try them all to see which one best suits them.
Pre-requisites for Lv.3 Diviner: 300 posts and 3 months at game
Skills: 3
Level Four
The fourth level diviner finally puts away the divining cards of their apprenticeship, deeming them essentially children's toys and no longer having a need for such a guided method of fortune telling. While accuracy may suffer a bit at this level for the lack, the fourth level diviner understands that to progress, they need to stop relying on such tools. At the fourth level a diviner will choose a specialization, be it pendulum and ash, phrenology, palmistry, tasseography, or any number of other possibilities. While they may dabble a bit in other methods, they will show an obvious preference and often seem put out by being asked to divine with other methods that they find less comfortable.
Pre-requisites for Lv.4 Diviner: 500 posts and 9 months at game
Skills: 3
Level Five
The fifth level diviner, while still considered a quack by those who don't believe in fortune telling, will begin to earn respect in divining circles. They will have at least 70% accuracy and many begin a study of astronomy, numerology, or other more detail oriented additional methods that tend to be more introspective and involve the things that shape a person's personality rather than those things which effect them on a grander scale.
Pre-requisites for Lv.5 Diviner: 800 posts and 1 year at game
Skills: 2
Level Six
A sixth level diviner is said to be so in tune with the nature of time that they can begin to see it weaving through the very threads of reality. Even without fortune telling devices, these diviners have a sharp intuition and can sense dark auras. While they can't "see" auras, many can sense 'evil' as a strong sense of dread. While not entirely reliable, it is at the sixth level that a diviner begins to feel forces of power and suffer premonitions.
Pre-requisites for Lv.6 Diviner: 1200 posts and 1.5 years at game
Skills: 2
Level Seven
A seventh level diviner not only has the occasional premonition, but sporadic visions as well. These are uncontrollable and forceful things that come unwarned and are often quite vague. A level seven diviner is often mistaken for a prophet. Their intuition alone makes a diviner of this level worth their weight in gold. These diviners have a very strong preference for method of fortune telling and will often outright refuse to use another-whether they know how or not.
Pre-requisites for Lv.7 Diviner: 1600 posts and 2 years at game
Skills: 2
Level Eight
An eighth level diviner is said to be able to tell a person's future with just a touch of the hand. So in tune with the flow of time that they have been known to describe a person's future in terms of colors and threads, most people don't want to know their future enough to ask this diviner to tell it-the future is a scary thing. It is said not only an eighth level can tell the future, but actually, if unintentionally, manipulates it and forces the future to be shaped in accordance to their visions and premonitions. Most are too afraid the eighth level diviner will see something terrible in their future to ask their business, but a few brave souls are willing to pay a small fortune for this level of accuracy.
Pre-requisites for Lv.8 Diviner: 2100 posts and 3 years at game
Skills: 1
Level Nine
As opposed to the unreliable and seemingly random visions of their previous levels, it is rumored that a ninth level diviner is actually capable of inducing visions. While able to tell a person's fortune with something as simple as a touch of the hand, the ninth level diviner has long since become a creature of habit and will most often prefer to do so with the specialized method they've chosen many years past while still in the intermediate level of divining. As with the eighth level diviner, the ninth is said to be able to manipulate the threads of time and force their fortunes to become reality. Whether this is the case or if fate is truly as immutable as a diviner will tell you remains to be proven.
