Level One
When Artificers begin their careers they're often little more than apprentice craftsmen and many will have no clue of their true potential. While some may already be studying the principles of magic and magical theory, even they have no actual ability to wield such forces at this level. Rather, they must first learn the basics of their chosen craft before they can explore the true power of their gifts.
Pre-Requisites for Lv.1 Artificer: None
Skills: 1 craftsman (carpentry, blacksmithing, gemcutter, silversmith, etc.) + 2 other
Level Two
As the Artificer reaches level two his skill at his chosen craft has reached the point at which he understands the basics, but now he has discovered that he has a gift which sets him above the norm. Whether this has come by an intense desire to learn the Artificer path or natural inclination, he's developed an ability to read the flows of magic which pass through all things. Using this new gift they can now begin creating truly magic items (they must be created from scratch; cannot imbue existing items with magic), but they can only do this within the realm of their chosen craft(s). Still fairly inexperienced at his chosen craft, mistakes aren't uncommon and the item may be flawed, but they also have the problem of the enchantment not always being successful (and sometimes only partially so). Only one enchantment can be worked into a given item.
Pre-requisites for Lv.2 Artificer: 100 posts and 3 months at game
Skills: enchant item + 2 other
Level Three
By level three the Artificer is finally getting the hang of both her craft and the act of working magic into her creations. At this point many young Artificers elect to begin learning other craftsman skills to give them a broader field to work in, while some choose to maintain their focus on their initial field. Those that diversify are unable to work magic into creations of their new field until the skill has passed beyond first level, but they may already begin to see ways that they can combine their talents to make even more impressive creations.
Pre-requisites for Lv.3 Artificer: 300 posts and 6 months at game
Skills: 3
Level Four
Level four tends to be a restless level for Artificers as they are no longer satisfied with simply creating their items. They want to get out into the world and see how well they work. Personal experience is the best of teachers and these Artificers know enough to realize there's much more to learn. Although often timid about putting themselves into dangerous situations, those same dangers can provide immense inspiration for useful effects to work into their creations. One advantage of all their hard work in the shop, however, is that they're now able to imbue two separate (different) effects into each of their creations, if so desired, though it takes fifty percent longer to craft something with two enchantments.
Pre-requisites for Lv.4 Artificer: 500 posts and 9 months at game
Skills: 3
Level 5
Where the fourth level was one of seeing the world to better understand the results of their own work, Artificers who reach level five have often learned something they never expected. They've learned to love the thrill of adventure. While the lengthy nature of the process of creating an enchanted item necessitates quite a bit of time get spent in one workplace or another, these intrepid craftsmen are willing to work wherever they find the necessary equipment. When the work is done they simply head back out on the road to test their latest creations.
Pre-requisites for a Lv.5 Artificer: 800 posts and 1 year at game
Skills: 2
Level Six
By level six most Artificers have become rather expert in at least one field and some may be quite talented in a few. Additionally, they've advanced their ability to work magic into their creations to a point that the entire process has become easier and much more accommodating to their continuing wanders. The base time multiplier for creating an enchanted item is now only twice what it would require to make the same item without any enchantment (additional time for extra enchantments is added to this time).
Pre-requisites for Lv.6 Artificer: 1200 posts and 1.5 years at game
Skills: 2
Level Seven
Level seven Artificers tend to lessen the amount of time they spend out in the world as they've already seen a great deal of it. Now they prefer to spend their time dedicated to bringing all their ideas to fruition, frequently making a living by selling such items to adventurers and the wealthy. They've gained a much better understanding of how their different effects work in the field and their understanding of the magic which they work into has grown, allowing them to focus the power of the enchantments. They may now create items with a double-strength enchantment, though this increases the time of creation by fifty percent just as the second enchantment did. Double-strength enchantments are the only enchantment which can be placed on an item (ie no second effect possible).
Pre-requisites for Lv.7 Artificer: 1600 posts + 2 years at game
Skills: 2
Level Eight
By the time an Artificer has reached level eight they've made quite an impressive reputation for themselves and may find that they start receiving requests for specific items from members of royal blood and military leaders. Working the magic has become second nature to the Artificer and single effect (normal strength) items can be created without any additional time. It would almost be more of a challenge for the Artificer to craft something without magical properties. Additionally, they may now imbue up to three separate effects into any item at least the volume of a man's fist, though these items take a full four times as long to create as would the same item without any enchantment.
Pre-requisites for Lv.8 Artificer: 2100 posts and 3 years at game
Skills: 1
Level Nine
The master Artificer is not a person you want to anger. Even aside from the various mystically enchanted items they tend to carry on their person, they also tend to have a great many contacts in the upper crust of society and many such people who would be more than happy to work a couple favors in return for a new trinket or two. They may now craft items with triple-strength enchantments, a double-strength plus a separate effect, or three completely different effects if they choose, though the item being created must be at least the volume of a man's fist. Such items can fetch a fortune on the market and often, should they find themselves in the right hands, go on to become the stuff of legends.
